Hi, I’m John Steffen, and I’m passionate about the game of golf. I’m talking really passionate. That doesn’t necessarily mean that I play a huge amount of rounds (heck, I only play about 30 or 40 times a year). What it does mean is that each round is the most important round of my life. Each round is savored as if it’s going to be my last. Each round is treated an experience worth remembering.

I act out this passion primarily on the public golf courses in and around Chicago. I love to play Chicago public golf because the quantity, conditions, and variety are unmatched on the globe…I’m talking the whole globe, including other countries!

Now admittedly, I’ve only played golf in the US, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, so I may not be completely qualified to make this “including other countries” claim. But I do have the internet…and I use Google maps…so it’s just about the same as being a world traveler.

So there you have it. Welcome to Chicago Public Golf, the website! Let’s break it down a little further, shall we?

CHICAGO

This is a fine city. Sure, we have graft, greed, and corruption in epic proportions, but don’t all cities have some? And yes, our sales tax and the price for a gallon of gas are about the highest in the nation. But who comes here to shop…for gas? Nobody, you come here to eat and play golf.

And trust me my friends, the golf is priced right.

“Oh, but the weather is so horrible,” you say. Not during golf season my friends! In fact, our golf season occurs during the longest and most beautiful days of the year. Perfect days for growing huge swaths of tightly mowed bentgrass, a “desirable grass for golf course tees, fairways, and greens.” Good God friends! Desirable is in a understatement, you will love playing on bentgrass.

PUBLIC

We do not talk about private golf on this site. This is a no country club zone. In fact, the logo stands in mockery of exclusive, private clubs. The Chicago Public Golf logo is a sharp, brutish shield that proudly bears the colors of the Flag of Chicago. If you touch it, you may cut yourself, so be careful. Let this symbol indicate forever the quality, economy, toughness, and openness of the best golf on earth.

GOLF

I don’t care if you call it a game, sport, activity, or endeavor. I call it great. No, let me rephrase that, I call it triple great! There is no other earthly endeavor that calls on a human to synchronize physical skills, emotional control, and intellect to the degree that golf does. In order to excel, a human must be equally proficient in these three areas. There is nothing out there that calls on such a wide range of human abilities, so consistently, and for such an extended period of time.
