When it comes to great values in the region, the 36 hole facility at Countryside in Mundelein is probably in the top ten. Eighteen holes with cart for $52 is the most you can pay this summer. I paid that on Saturday morning and enjoyed it a lot. It’s a great layout with really well kept greens and tee boxes. Continue reading
Recap Of My Round At Chevy Chase In Wheeling, IL
Chevy Chase is a cool layout with some great history. I talked about it a few days ago in my Tom Bendelow discussion. Bob Lohmann did the redesign/renovation and I like it a lot. I cruised out there last Friday for a 1:36pm tee time that I made online. Continue reading
Recap of My Round at Foxford Hills in Cary, Illinois
I played Foxford Hills yesterday and had a great time. Before we start the discussion, you should know that everything may be tainted by the fact that I’m on a hot streak. I’ve been striking the ball as good as I ever have in my life for the last five rounds and this could cause an overly rosy view of anything. I carded a 76, my third round in the 70s in the last five rounds. I’ve posted five single-digit differentials in a row. Go figure, this after a horrendously bad June where I struggled to break 90. Messed up I tell you. Continue reading
Pre-Round Review And Research: Foxford Hills
One thing this site will do is give you the ability to do some pre-round research. This is important if you want to be comfortable when you step on the grounds. Foxford Hills does not have an overview of the course on their site, so we will use Google Maps. Continue reading
Foxford Hills Will Be First Course Explored On New Website
I’m playing Foxford Hills this weekend in Cary and it will serve as a test for various stuff on this site. I have so much to flush out: design, layout, organization, rating system, sitemap, social networks. It’s all going to interrupt the enjoyment I get out of golf for awhile.
I’m still fired up for this Nugent designed beauty. I played Foxford Hills when it first opened in 2003 and a few of the holes were pretty raw. The tree-lined 15th, which is a near-replica of the 11th at Kemper Lakes, didn’t really have any grass on it at all. I’m hoping that’s different this weekend with all of the rain and recent nice weather we’ve had. When I played it in 2003 I bumbled around in a 93 (ESC 89) on the 6,590 yard tee rated at 70.9/125. They’ve since re-rated that tee box to 71.9/133. It’s the one I’m playing for sure.
I’ll tell you all about it this weekend.
